چکیده

Traditionally, magneto-dielectric effects have been developed by combining ferroelectric and magnetic materials. Here, we show a magneto-dielectric effect from optically-generated intermolecular charge-transfer states in an organic semiconducting donor:acceptor (PVK:TCNB) system. We observe in magnetic field effects of photoluminescence that a magnetic field can change singlet/triplet population ratio in intermolecular charge-transfer states. Furthermore, our theoretical analysis and experimental evidence indicate that the singlets and triplets in charge-transfer states have stronger and weaker electrical polarizations, respectively. Therefore, the observed magneto-dielectric effect can be attributed to magnetically-dependent singlet/triplet ratio in intermolecular charge-transfer states. In principle, a magneto-dielectric effect can be generated through two different channels based on magneto-polarization and magneto-current effects when the singlet/triplet ratio in intermolecular charge-transfer states is changed by a magnetic field. We find, from the simulation of dielectric effects, that magneto-polarization and magneto-current effects play primary and secondary roles in the generation of magneto-dielectric effect.

Selective fluorination of organic semiconducting molecules is proposed as a means to achieving enhanced hole mobility. Naphthalene is examined here as a root molecular system with fluorination performed at various sites. Our quantum chemical calculations show that selective fluorination can enhance attractive intermolecular interactions while reducing charge trapping. Those observations suggest...

Fabrication of High-Performance Polymer Bulk-Heterojunction Solar Cells by Interfacial Modifications II

This work studies the magneto conductance (MC) responses of regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT)-based polymer photovoltaic devices. The net MC results of devices are the sum of the positive and negative MC effects. The positive MC effect is due to the increased population of the singlet polaron-pair (PP) states (of the high dissociation rate to charge carriers) under the magnetic field. ...

Molecular dynamics and charge transport in organic semiconductors: a classical approach to modeling electron transfer.

Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) are a promising carbon-neutral energy conversion technology, with recent improvements pushing power conversion efficiencies over 10%. A major factor limiting OPV performance is inefficiency of charge transport in organic semiconducting materials (OSCs). Due to strong coupling with lattice degrees of freedom, the charges form polarons, localized quasi-particles compr...

Photoinduced hole-transfer in semiconducting polymer/low-bandgap cyanine dye blends: evidence for unit charge separation quantum yieldw

Power-conversion efficiencies of organic heterojunction solar cells can be increased by using semiconducting donor–acceptor materials with complementary absorption spectra extending to the near-infrared region. Here, we used continuous wave fluorescence and absorption, as well as nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy to study the initial charge transfer step for blends of a donor poly(p-...

Synthesis of magneto-optically active polyanilines

We report preparation of polyaniline (PANI) with radicals on the N-positions. Chirality of a PANI having optically active substituent is retained even upon oxidation by m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid in chloroform to generate spin species. Electron spin resonance and circular dichroism spectroscopy measurements suggest that the chiral paramagnetic properties of PANIs are derived from the combinatio...
